Summer came back, for the weekend! On Saturday I drove down to Pacifica for some limping on the beach (I injured my right foot the week before, after some overzealous power walking in heeled boots). Further down Highway 1, near Half Moon Beach, I found a cute organic farm stand selling red potatoes, sweet corn and snap peas for cheap. Throw some chicken kebabs into the mix and we had a mini grill fest on the back deck. Oh, and I surprised M with a case of Molson Canadian (a rare sight for sore WNY eyes…) BevMo rules.
Aaaand on Sunday, thanks to the aforementioned foot injury, we passed on participating in this year’s Bay to Breakers in exchange for an afternoon at Golden Gate Fields for $1 days ($1 parking, $1 beers, $1 programs, $1 hot dogs, $1… ah you get the idea.) We lost a little, and won a little, then went to Target.

Joey likes Holloway, Holloway hates Joey. Joey tries to befriend Holloway by walking over to her. Holloway responds by hissing and swatting at Joey. Joey gets angry and attacks* Holloway. Holloway runs away and finds a small space to hide for hours and hours. Joey eats Holloway’s food then immediately throws it back up. Lovely.
* That cat can move! Who knew…

“Spider
He is our hero
Spider
Get rid of
Spider
Step on spider
Spider
We love you spider”
If I had to pick a song that best represents this image, it would be Spider, an obvious choice and one of my favorites by They Might Be Giants. However, heed my advice: don’t step on spider… not only is it bad luck, it could rain. Just leave it be on its beautiful web. The very same web that I will accidentally walk through as I roam the back deck with my morning coffee. Sorry, spider.

This is our new cat, a rescue that we adopted from the SPCA today. She’s 3 years old and long haired (same as Joey), very mellow and very shy. Joey wasn’t exactly thrilled that inside the cool looking box we brought home was another cat, but we’re confident that they’ll be best of buds within a few days. Her current name, Miss Kitty, is a wee bit pretentious, so I’ve compiled a list of San Francisco streets that I thought would make a great replacement: Holloway, Chenery, Stockton, Hampshire and Fillmore. I’m leaning toward Stockton or Chenery, but in the meantime I’ve nicknamed her Pickle. I don’t know, what do you think?

Oy. This week has been a little rough. Joey has been sick, Matty is in standardized testing mode, and well, I’ve had my own challenges. Anyway, here’s something.

My gluten-free turkey goulash

The mini herb garden is, well, coming along!

Joey loooooves to hang out in our closet(s).
