On how to drink a shrimp

March 31st, 2009 Comments Off

Our favorite place to “brunch” is a little french crepery in the Mission called Ti Couz — responsible for the best cheese/mushroom buckwheat crepes, ever. I normally refrain from ordering fancy beverages at brunch, but their Bloody Marys looked mighty tasty… and well loved. Also, the shrimp/olive/onion adornment appealed to me. Shrimp, in a drink? Yum. Wouldn’t you want to try one?

I was right, it was gooooood. I think I’ll top all my beverages with an edible sea creature… and Tabasco.

10:40 am, I’m sitting here at work, staring blankly at my Google Reader, waiting for an ounce of motivation to hit… then my desk starts to wobble. Thinking nothing of it, I left my headphones on until someone yelled, Earthquake! And then it was over.

OK, not a biggie, but it was the largest one that I’ve ever felt.

about the weather… again

It’s a big deal this time of year when the temperature exceeds 60 degrees, back East. People start to venture outside, the UPS people put on their shorts, and everyone is cheering, “it’s warm outside, and Summer is finally HERE!” In San Francisco, the weather is a lot like an East coast Summer, you know, when the temperature drops down to the 60’s/50’s and everyone is complaining, “mother of a hot dog, it’s cold!”

Now stretch that feeling to all four seasons. And wear, one word: layers.

OK, we do get warmer days, like today. It’s presently 75, sunny, and I’m thrilled. Oh, glorious day! I can take my jacket off and uh, leave it nearby.

One meal in our repertoire is fresh talipia/catfish/sole/whateverscheapest that I broil with olive oil, kosher salt and dried basil (I’m presently growing my own, but they’re off to a slow start). For added color and flavor, I typically throw a few tomato slices on top.

March 10th 2007, can that be right? That’s like 10 years ago… on the Internet. Anyway, I’m klabhead and I twitter more frequently now. Follow me and I’ll follow you. Like the song, kinda.

This is my nightmare

Last night, prior to bed, I made the usual rounds about the house, checking that everything is off and/or unplugged. While touching the knobs of the oven, I looked down and spotted a big ol’ garden slug on the floor, by the back door. A GARDEN SLUG? A GARDEN SLUG! Why, oh why, is there a GARDEN SLUG on my floor?!

M tossed it outside like it was nothing, but I feel like it is on me. Is it on me?!

Vacation, all I ever wanted

March 16th, 2009 comments 2

After 2 months of procrastination, we finally booked our airfare, hotel, and car for our upcoming, and highly anticipated vacation out of here. I’m thrilled to announce that 3 weeks from today, we’ll be in warm, sunny, volcano-rich Kailua-Kona, in Hawaii. I can’t wait!

Hopefully I won’t stumble upon any cursed tikki pendants… or, dudes in burial caves that look an awful lot like Vincent Price. Aaaaand, that’s all I know on the subject, feel free to educate me. Okole Maluna!

I left Movable Type and moved over the Wordpress. Not that I have anything against MT (shhhhh they live nearby) but Wordpress requires a lot less guesswork for code tinkers like me. I’ll be working on my own theme as time permits, but in the meantime, please update your feed reader of choice to http://www.inawesternplace.com/?feed=rss2. Peace.

Where am I?
